BEFORE WE GET INTO MY REVIEW OF THESE YUNI BEAUTY PRODUCTS, I THOUGHT WE WOULD START WITH THE INTERVIEW WITH EMMANUEL RAY, CEO AND CO-FOUNDER OF YUNI BEAUTY.
INTERVIEW WITH CO-FOUNDER EMMANUEL RAY
I was really lucky to get to do AN video interview with Co-Founder Emmanuel Ray in Sydney. He is married to the other Co-founder Suzanne Dawson, who is Australian, and was in Melbourne visiting family. Emmanuel Ray has such a wealth of information and is incredibly wise. After the interview, I also got to spend time to have a nice and long conversation with him. We spoke about the beauty industry, life philosophy and many other things. I felt illuminated after that conversation and can only imaging how much more I would have got if both Founders were there.
UNFORTUNATELY, THE VIDEO FILES WERE CORRUPTED WITHN I UPDATED MY VIDEO EDITING PROGRAM. I WAS COMPLETELY GUTTED BY THAT AS WON'T BE ABLE TO SEE THE SPARKLE IN EMMANUEL'S EYES AS HE TALKS ABOUT MATTERS THAT HE IS PASSIONATE ABOUT. I DID HOWEVER RECORD THE AUDIO SEPARATELY AND WAS ABLE TO CREATE A "PODCAST FROM IT. SO I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT. HE IS ONE MOST INTERESTING PERSON.
One of the questions I asked was: "What is the first thing you do in the morning and the last thing you do at night?"
I think I my eyes welled up with tears with his answer. He said, "Well, my wife and I start the day with a meditation session (it seems a lot of successful people do this) and at night, we give thanks for what we have, like giving thanks for having each other." CRY. So sweet. It brought to mind one of my favourite classical pieces "Pavane, Op 50" by Gabriel Fauré.

ABOUT YUNI BEAUTY
When I first came across this brand about 2 years ago, I was immediately intrigued. There were products that looked like I had seen and used from Japan and Asia. However, these were quite different because they used interesting natural ingredients and were designed by two Ashtanga Yoga teachers. It has that New Age/LA vibe to it. Both Co-Founders Emmanuel Ray and Susan Dawson have a rich experience in the beauty World having worked for brands like Aveda.

REVIEW OF YUNI BEAUTY SKINCARE PRODUCTS
All YUNI BEAUTY products are cruelty-free and made using sustainable methods (including the packaging).
To set the scene for my review, I have oily dehydrated and sensitive skin.
Of my Review of YUNI Skincare Products, this ZENICURE oil is one of my star products. It SMELLS amazing. I've actually used most of it (the photo above was taken a while ago). It is so light and absorbs quickly. My face feels moisturised and non-greasy. It smells like lemongrass, ylang ylang and jasmine. For some reason, every time I smell it, I feel like having Thai food.
It is really interesting that one of the key ingredients is Cannabis Oil. I never knew that it has such good anti-oxidant properties. Another ingredient that I don't come across often is Mirabilis Jalapa Callus Extract - the Mirabilis jalapa flower is known as either: the marvel of Peru; or the four o'clock flower. When growing up in Asia, I do recall our neighbours having a plant with beautiful hibiscus-looking flowers that would close in the afternoon. They did smell very sweet.
In my research on Mirabilis Jalapa, I found that it has so many uses. Here is a list from Wikipedia:
What an amazing plant! I wouldn't mind trying a cake or jelly made from this amazing flower. It has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties which work well in the face oil. I do not break out at all using this (some face oils are a bit too rich for my skin).

ZENICURE Rejuvenating Facial Oil
Another thing that I like about this face oil is the packaging. It comes in a frosted glass. The dropper design is a winner. I have a lot of oils/serums that have that rubber top that you squeeze. If you are not careful, these rubber tops can "melt/degrade", making the product unusable. With this dropper, as you open it, the top pops out and you can take and dispense as much as like by gently pressing on the top.
CHILLAX Muscle Recovery Gel
This is an anti-inflammatory gel. You apply it after a tiring workout on areas which ache or are generally sore. It does have a "chilling" effect on application - sort of like applying mint.
Growing up in Asia, we had a lot of products that were similar in packaging and purpose like Tiger Balm Liniment (sometimes I get them in the roll-on packaging) and the famous Zen Gu Shui 正骨水. There are also similar products in all parts of Asia including Japan (my favourite one is from Japan (see the green one from Vantelin Kowa) - I stock up on that one every time we go to Japan. They work in a similar way to Chillax, though with very different ingredients. They mostly have magnesium in them. However, unlike Chillax, the sensation is warming instead of cooling.

Arnica Flower Extract is generally used to help reduce swelling, bruising, and discomfort.
Peppermint Leaf Essential Oil produces natural menthol that helps to reduce the feeling of discomfort post-workout.
Fair Trade Green Tea Extract contributes to reduce the formation of free radicals.

YUNI YUNICORN Celestial Jelly Daily Mask Cleanser
This is a 2-in-1 product that can be used as a daily cleanser and mask. The texture is really unique. It is a gel with holographic pigments in it. It is a very pretty product and lives up to its"unicorn" name. When you shake it, it is a bit like jelly. It has smooth gel texture when applied. To me, it smells faintly of lavender and sunflower seeds. It works well as a gentle cleanser (more for just cleaning the face rather than removing makeup). As a mask, I like to apply a thicker layer. As a mask, it left my skin feeling plump and hydrated. I also felt that I got a bit of a glow.
You apply it with dry hands on to a dry face and on contact with water, it will emulsify and become milky. It does rinse clean fairly quickly. YUNI says you can use it as a 1 minute mask, but for me, the maximum results were achieved after the "normal mask wear time" of about 5-10 mins. It has rice bran in it which helps promote hydration, reduce pigmentation, even out skin tones, and diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. These skin benefits of rice bran oil are largely attributed to the high level of vitamin E, vitamin B, omega-9, a rich array of fatty acids (source). Rice bran extract is used in popular (and expensive) Japanese skincare like SKII.
It is a really cute product to try. Definitely one to add to the cart!

YUNI ACTIVE CALM Firming Facial Moisturiser
The Active Calm moisturiser is also quite a delight to use. The results are almost instant. Like most of the other YUNI products, it smelt like it had lemongrass and lavender in it, along with some kind of seed oil.
This has a very light texture, almost like gel. I found that it absorbed very quickly into my skin and kept it hydrated for most of the day. I typically would use it in the morning because of the scent - it has an uplifting scent. It is quite a nice sensorial experience to apply this in the morning and breathe in the scent through your hands. It sets the right tone for the day. I highly recommend it also if you are just about to start your yoga session - scent is so good.
I like the fact that it contains anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial ingredients. I'm such a "germaphobe", so a lot of the skincare I buy has to contain such ingredients.

YUNI GLIDING LIGH Illuminating Balm
Of all of the YUNI products, I think I used this the least. I'm not too sure why, because I did like the effect of it when applied. It is a body balm, and to be honest, I'm not very conscientious when it comes to applying body care. I really sure use it more often.
This one smells like tumeric and jojoba oil to me. It almost instantly melts into an oil when you use it. As it warms up on your skin, a slightly stronger citrus scent is released. It leaves a subtle "highlighter glow". YUNI says you can use it as a highlighter on your face.
I like to use it on my legs after I've shaved them. It makes my legs look MUCH better. I also apply it on my décolletage.
I generally steer away from balms. I don't like that "balmy" feeling that takes forever to absorb. However, this does not have that same texture. I would describe it as a thicker cream-to-oil product. It really does melt down on contact with the skin (warm it up by working it into your skin) and absorbs fairly quickly.
Sometimes, I felt that it had a "warming" feeling. I don't think it is meant to do that and possibly this just might be my imagination. However, I have found that it seems to soothe the aches and pains in my legs after a cardio workout.
