A Tahaa Affair Devotion Glasshouse Fragrances

Before giving you my review of A Tahaa Affair Devotion EDP, let's delve in to what Glasshouse has to say about it.

Glasshouse Fragrances describes A Tahaa Affair Devotion as follows:

"A future cult classic, embark on an island sojourn. Be swept away with brown sugar caramel, vanilla orchid and a sparkling sea accord.

A reimagining of the iconic hone scent A Tahaa Affair Devotion EDP delivers everything you love in a gGourmand Floral Fragrance

Wrapped in exotic white florals, jasmine sambac and creamy sandalwood, the scent of vanilla orchid melds with coconut water and sun dried driftwood. An indulgent composition, it'll transport you to Polynesia."

BUTTERSCOTCH CARAMEL & JASMINE" - (source link)

Top Notes: Sweet Sugar Cane, Coconut Water, Sea Salt.

Middle Notes: Jasmine Sambac, Vanilla Orchid, Polynesian Hibiscus, Tahitian Foliage

Base Notes: Caramel Butterscotch, Black Amber, Sun Dried Driftwood, Cedarwood

This is in addition to its popular A Tahaa Affair Home Fragrances range. That range has notes of:

Top Notes: Pineapple

Middle Notes: Coconut Fruity

Base Notes: Caramel and Vanilla

When comparing the two fragrances, Devotion EDP vs Candle, I feel like the candle is not as sweet as the Devotion EDP. They are two different scents. So if you are hoping to get liquid A Tahaa, I'm afraid A Tahaa Devotion EDP won't give you that.

The AUDRRP for $99.95 for 50ml ;for 100ml it is $139

My Review of A Tahaa Affair Devotion EDP Glasshouse Fragrances

My Thoughts on A Tahaa Affair Devotion EDP:

The Bottle: It comes in a fluted round glass bottle. The bottle is heavier than it looks and makes it feel very luxurious. For the label, they have indented a square to fit the gold label (it is not a sticker and looks like it is metal fused onto the bottle), which I think is a nice touch. The cap is black plastic with a magnet in it to click back onto top of the bottle. Another nice touch as I sometimes lose bottle tops.

The Scent: This is a floral gourmand fragrance. At first, I'm hit by a very strong sweet caramel scent. then coconut and jasmine. It does have overtones of sugarcane (reminds me of those sugarcane drinks I used to have in Asia). It reminds of of coconut caramel candies I used to eat growing up in Asia. There's a bit of a grated coconut vibe to it. You also will get the sea salt notes coming trough, around about the 3 hour wear mark - it is not strong, but balances out the fragrance a bit more than its very sweet beginnings.

The Dry Down: It took about 1-2 hours for the fragrance to fully develop on me. I got mostly Jasmine and Cedarwood. As well as the sea salt and caramel butterscotch. The cedarwood plays a major role as this dries down.

The Tastes: This "tastes" very much like the coconut caramels that I ate as a child. It has a gula melaka richness to it with a touch of salt. A Tahaa Affair Devotion does however taste a lot more sweeter than that candy.

The Colours: More candy colours than tropical vides. I get rich golden browns from this EDP as well.

The Feelings: Hard to describe. The jasmine and coconut caramel reminds me of certain points in time of my childhood. This is meant to be a joyous scent, but I feel even amongst all that sweetness, there is a bit of a melancholic touch to it. It is like trying to remember something that you lost and want to find but can't remember that that thing is in the first place.

The Wear Time: On me, it was about 5-6 hours. It started to dry down after the 102 hour mark and was less intense.

Suggested occasions to wear this: Gourmands are meant to give you food fragrances. This definitely does in terms of the sweet caramel butterscotch and coconut. This is a sweet scent with a woody ending. It is not overwhelming and I think you can wear this day and night. It is not too bad as an office wear fragrance - after the dry down.

Overall: I know a lot of people are crazy about Glasshouse Fragrances A Tahaa candles. The Devotion EDP does not smell like that. Think of this as a sweeter and woddier version of A Tahaa. I like the bottle design because it looks and feels luxurious. The box it came in is also very nice, with the musky pink and gold. It looks expensive. Gourmands fragrances are not for everyone. So I don't think this will appeal to everyone. I think I would have liked this more if they had added some citrus notes to lift it up. It does smell a little "heavy" (heavy like a heavy cake) and needs a citrus or herb note to lift it up from the caramel coconut layers. Considering all factors discussed above, If I was to give it a rating of out of 10, I would say around 6.5/10 to 7/10.
