Vilhelm Parfumerie is a NYC based perfume house:
"A luxury contemporary fragrance house based in New York. Founded in 2015 by Jan Vilhelm Ahlgren to bring dynamic, innovative scents, heritage designs and timeless prints. Each Vilhelm Parfumerie scent has an elaborate founding story and evokes the by-gone memories and moments of its founder. Perfumes are bottled in France and their strength lies in rarity of rare ingredients, rare pairings and rare tastes. The fragrances are an ode to the past, expressed in contemporary olfactory language and artistic approach."
Vilhelm Parfumerie describes its fragrances and creations as:
"More than a perfume, Vilhelm Parfumerie is a library. If some scents are silences, these are tales. Within identical bottles, fragrances are so many narratives that call to all senses, housed in a hefty bottle of spun glass, dressed in a saffron yellow label that nods to a piece of Bakelite found in a Parisian flea market. Northern lights and Hollywood highlights. North and South. Freshly cut grass and caressing oud. Bracing freshness and burning summer warmth. Simple pleasures and lavish times. Each fragrance is the culmination of a broad, creative and collaborative process – a rare blend of vintage and new that sparks recognition but not familiarity. From its dynamic, innovative scents to the heritage design and timeless prints, Vilhelm Parfumerie is a nod to the past, expressed in our contemporary olfactory language and aesthetic."
I love that they are "a nod to the past" combined with contemporary elements.
My Thoughts on "Room Service" Eau de Parfum by Vilhelm Parfumerie:
The Bottle: All of the fragrances from Vilhelm Parfumerie come in the same glass bottle and yellow cap with the only distinguishing feature being the paper label that tells what fragrance it is. This was done intentionally by Vilhelm Parfumerie, so that each fragrance is judged solely on its notes and composition instead of being affected by the "visuals" of a distinct different bottle.
The bottle is gorgeous fluted glass that looks a bit vintage. It is a fairly unusual bottle being that it is round and flatter. The glass wear reminds me very much of glass houseware you can find in vintage shops. It feels heavy and luxurious in the hand.
The Scent: Oh yes, my first sniff revealed a fresh vanilla french toast covered in honey and berries. Delicious!
The notes are:
Top notes: Mandarin Nectar, Blackberry
Heart notes: Pink Orchid, Bamboo, Violet
Base notes: Black Amber, Musk, Sandalwood
This is such a well crafted fragrance. Usually, the first thing that I detect with most fragrances is the alcohol (the main carrier of the essential oils - comes across very sharp and harsh and depending on the fragrance can linger for a while). I didn't get that with "Room Service". Instead, I got the fruity honey notes of the mandarin nectar and blackberry. The heart notes come across as a rose like scent. I like the touch of fresh bamboo that they added. It helps balance out the sweeter notes.
The Dry Down: On dry down, which took less than an hour to fully develop, "Room Service" becomes this sexy musky sweet scent with the black amber adding that vanilla and tonka beans flavour that I got on my first impressions.
The Tastes: Yummy fresh vanilla cream french toast covered in berries and honey. Delish.
The Colours: This is both a combination of warmer cosier tones.
The Feelings: Vilhelm Parfumerie describes the "feel" to be like:
"Picture this: Greta Garbo at Carlyle – a superstar who chose herself above Hollywood’s siren song. Alone in her hotel room, attired in a drift of satin and poignant allure, waiting for her ultimate luxury: a bath of flower petals, the warm water releasing this collision of citrus and red fruits, bamboo, violet, black amber and sandalwood."
It definitely has that Old Hollywood feel. It feels like lounging around a luxe hotel room, waiting for the bath to fill while indulging in some scrumptious room service. It also has that fresh feel that you get when you first step into a luxe hotel room.
The Wear Time: Definitely a good long wear perfume. "Room Service" lasted on me for a good day and night.
Suggested occasions to wear this: Ohhh, I want to wear it all the time. I love the vanilla/tonka beans flavour from the black amber combined with the florals and botanicals. As it is fairly pricey (but totally worth it), I personally would save this for special occasions.
Overall: I highly rate "Room Service" by Vilhelm Parfumerie. It might not be in their top sellers, but I was impressed by the composition of notes. It is very evocative of Old Hollywood glam and the luxury of an expensive hotel room with excellent room service. It has that decadent ultra luxe feel.
Beautiful design. The box and bottle are both very luxe.
I do love this "vintage feel" glass bottle. Very unique.
I love how the box comes with a sleeve and then you have a box in which sits the perfume. Simple yet very chic.
